Merits and Demerits of Magnetic Bearings:
With the rapid growth of industrialization, the product bearing plays an important role for such development. It is one of the major parts of the machine. It is a device that allows the continuous movement of two parts of the machine. Generally all kinds of machines use them for the function of providing support to a rotational object.
There are various types of bearings. The magnetic bearings are not so popular as the ball and roller bearings. Reluctance force and Lorentz force are the two types of magnetic forces that are used in the magnetic bearings. They usually support the load with the help of magnetic force. They are used in particular places like in natural gas pipelines, petroleum refineries, etc. Magnetic bearings have certain merits of their own. They have no maintenance cost. They do not require lubricants as there is no surface wear and tear. They have long durability as compared to others. They are highly resistive and can be used for sensitive applications. Besides those merits they also have certain demerits. They are expensive as they require lot of time and effort for development. Assembling them in the machines is difficult.
